Have you ever been presented with an opportunity that you didn’t quite feel qualified for? Some way, somehow, you find yourself in a situation where you could really do something great that’s outside of your comfort zone, but you may not feel like you’re enough or maybe that you don’t quite have what it takes to slay it. Perhaps you’re experiencing that right now in your role at work or even with a new venture outside of work that you know you should pursue. This conundrum, or shenanigan as I like to call it, is something that can come up into our lives as working professionals whether in corporate or entrepreneurship, or any other work environment. What is happening is, there’s a battle going on in the mind—your vision vs. God’s vision.
This battle reminds me of Moses in Genesis when God was sending Him to Pharaoh to get him to set the captives free. Let’s see the battle that’s going on in Moses’ mind as he responds to God’s instructions.
“Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” Genesis 4:10
Isn’t that something! God himself was setting up Moses to do something great, something of real purpose, and what did Moses do? He focused on the ways in which he wasn’t equipped or good enough for the opportunity. He wanted to shrink down, stay comfortable and not stretch himself. Well let’s not even think about shaking our heads in judgment of Moses because we do the same thing! What’s encouraging is that God saw Moses from a different view than Moses saw himself. Look at the response Moses got.
“The LORD said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.”” Genesis 4:11-12
Moses was given a different perspective to consider—a different and clearer lense to view the awesome opportunity he was being given. As we eat breakfast and get ready for the day ahead, let’s explore three things to consider when you don’t feel good enough for the position or opportunity you’ve been given, or one that you know you should pursue.
I May Not Be the Best BUT…
You should strive to be the best you can be, but to think you should be the best at something as compared to others is prideful, and we know good things don’t come from a prideful heart. There are lots of talented people in the world but, that doesn’t discredit your own talent you’ve been gifted with. There’s room for all of us to do great things! So consider that you may not be the best, but here’s the encouraging part—God is the best and he’s where you get your ability and talent from. I encourage you to train and prepare yourself for opportunities before you, but do remember that if you have the best on your team, you already have what you need to take a step forward towards success, right now.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
I Am More Than Qualified BECAUSE…
Considering the lack of credentials that were required, I ponder how I even got some of the jobs that I’ve been blessed with over the years. But then again, that’s how God operates! He’s a master at opening doors that we can’t even imagine opening for ourselves. So when he does open those doors, don’t start thinking about qualifications you have and don’t have because clearly, He qualified you! Worldly credentials matter in certain areas like the medical and legal field, in which I would hope you pursue earning them if those are the professionals you have an interest in. But do consider that doors can be opened to you that you may not be entirely qualified for that with God, you are more than qualified.
“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.”
1 Corinthians 1:27-29
I Can’t Do This By Myself SO…
I was chatting with a friend the other day and she shared with me her frustrations at work. She’s been trying really hard, putting in the hours, making valiant efforts to succeed where she believes she’s supposed to be. But for some reason, there isn’t consistency in victories at work. Some days are good and some days are not good at all. Well as she was explaining herself, I noticed a one-letter word that she used profusely. That word is “I”. She was trying to be triumphant in her role by herself. That approach results in doubt, frustration, and ultimately, defeat. If you’re trying to handle something that you feel is bigger than you, you need hands that are bigger than yours—God-sized hands. So tackle the task at hand with God.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5
As you can see, I’ve given you the first half of three sentences for you to finish with inspiring words. This is one of the ways to fight the battle in the mind powerfully, with truth. Let nothing hold you back from stepping into the role designed for you. Rise and shine bright!
“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

¼ Red Bell Pepper
2 cloves Garlic
1 Tsp. Paprika
¼ to ½ Cayenne Pepper, according to preference
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Sea Salt
Black Pepper
Sprinkle of dried Parsley
Instructions
On a cutting board, cut onion into thin slices, slice pepper into strips, and fine chop the garlic
In a mixing bowl, wash kale leaves and drain water
Massage kale with 1 Tbsp. of Extra Virgin Olive Oil until tender
