Bible Reference: Matthew 20:29-34
In Matthew 20:29-34, there were two blind men who shouted to Jesus to have mercy on them. They wanted their hardship to change. The people in the area rebuked them (expressing sharp disapproval or criticism because of someone’s behavior or action) but they shouted all the louder, “Have mercy on us!” As a result, Jesus showed compassion and healed them.
These blind men hoped that Jesus would heal them which is why they shouted for help. When we have hope in God, it allows us to face challenges with faith. With the faith that was declared despite the opposition (where others rebuked them), they were held with compassion by Jesus and were healed. Our hope in God is what sustains our faith, especially when challenges arise. Whatever you are hoping God will help you with, be encouraged to have faith that through His compassion, He can heal/help you – and trust, He will.
REFLECTION
- What do I put my hope in right now? / If stumped: Where do I go for help when challenges arise?
- Based on my answer, in what ways do I express this hope that I have towards these things or people?
- In what ways can I begin expressing hope in God?
“As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him. Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked. “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.” Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.” Matthew 20:29-34
